The Shop n' Lock simulation allowed us to experience an accelerated PBL model. During the process, we uncovered several key learning points which will help us to design and facilitate better PBL elements:

 

1. Relationships

One big goal in PBL is to enable students to create relationships of value throughout their ecosystem. As they seek relationships we want them to ask great questions, listen first  and engage via WIIFM. Asking "Why?", will enable them to learn why others are intersted in investing their energy in the project.

 

2. Values

Values matter. We want to forge alliances, partnerships and relationships with others that add value. Also, we want to work with people whose personal and organizational values are a good match for ours.

 

3. Real Deliverables

PBL is not about "fake it til you make it". PBL is an opportunity for students to learn the value of creating real, tangible work product as part of their process.
