10:15 AM Welcome & Eco-Challenge

1.gif (177427 bytes)The event kicked off with a welcome from Greg Evans of Creative Seeds. Greg introduced the Team Leaders and set the context for the next two days. After a quick icebreaker, Ms. Betty Burkhard of West High introduced the "Eco-Challenge".

The challenge required the teams to travel around the site answering questions, performing tasks and gathering information. The team who finished first, with the most correct responses would win a prize for their efforts.

12:40 PM Team Building

Following lunch, the group participated in a massive game of Amoeba Weeba. In the process, they discovered interesting and bizarre information about their peers.

"Fear of Image is a very real thing. It is that voice in our head that is critical of our every move. It inhibits our ability to take risks for fear of how we might look in the process. This fear strips us of valuable opportunities to learn."

1:40 PM Team Machines

The second team challenge for the day was the "Team Machine". Teams were instructed to create a team name and develop a team machine, using only their physical bodies as both the parts and products. They worked outside for 45 minutes and then returned to the main hall to present their talents.

3:15 PM The SuperMaze

Greg introduced the team to the next activity, The SuperMaze. This is a team event that required each team to work against the clock in a race to solve as many maze patterns as possible. Their objective was made more difficult by the presence of penalties or "buzzes". Each time the team received a buzz the maze path would reset and their work would be lost.

The large group reconvened following the SuperMaze to discuss the learning points of the activity:
  • Mistakes are necessary for progress.
  • Surrounding yourself with positive support makes a big difference.
  • Being specific and consistent with your support can help others to achieve.
  • Success requires unwavering focus.
  • "Nothing fails like success." - Avoid complacency. Use what you've learned to propel you to another goal.
  • Life is a timed event. Keep moving, gather information and strive to learn.

6:35 PM Paired Shares

Following that, Troy Stende took the group through a series of paired shares. This gave the students an opportunity to connect with new people and to learn interesting things about others.

8:50 PM Willow in the Wind

willow_in_wind.gif (155314 bytes)The last event of the evening, "Willow in the Wind", was designed to develop individual and team trust. The activity requires each individual in the team to support and be supported, both physically and emotionally.

Teams took turns passing their members through the activity and every team completed the event safely.

9:55 PM Closing

The day wrapped up with a song from staff member Greg Sammis. The students were given some logistical instructions for the morning and dismissed to their cabins for the night.
