1:15 PM Goal Setting

Greg re-iterated the three key components of effective leaders:

  • Lead
  • Plan
  • Execute

"It is important to note that there are people with leadership potential everywhere. There is a significant difference between having leadership capabilities and being a leader. Only those who can use their capabilities to get things done, to create change, to positively influence this planet are the real deal. The difference lies in planning and executing."

goape.gif (33124 bytes)The group took a few moments to assess their values and their corresponding beliefs/behaviors by completing a BE-DO-HAVE list.

Greg introduced the GOAPE model and led the group through the framework towards the creation of specific, near-term goals.

2:20 PM Board Breaking
(Please send photos. We were caught up in the moment.)

The final challenge for the group was "Board Breaking" Each participant received a 1 foot square pine board that was 1" inch thick. The board represented the primary obstacle faced in achieving their goal. They transcribed their obstacle across the face of the board and placed their goal sheet directly beneath it.

Greg prepared the group to achieve their goal by leading them through the physical movements necessary to break the board. Each participant practiced the form and were coached to safely attempt the exercise.

The students also prepared themselves mentally by focusing their state with breathing and visualization techniques.

Once unleashed, each and every individual successfully broke through their obstacle and supported their teammates to do the same. The group celebrated their successes and the camp closed on a very high note.
